Connected to bones by tendons, muscles move those bones in several ways. The bones that create the elbow are: The elbow can move in three ways based on small variations in the positions of the heads of the three bones. UCL injuries are common among baseball launchers, football quarterbacks, ice hockey players and racket sports players due to the kind of movement these sports involve. The other ligament on the side is the radial collateral ligament. Located outside the elbow, it prevents the excessive extension of the elbow. Bone fractures are among the most common short-term lesions of the elbow, as it is a common point of contact during high-impact collisions such as car accidents, falls and sports injuries. The radius and the ulna, the bones of the forearm, are also commonly broken. These fractures are often cured with plasters to immobilize the bone, but compound fractures (combining fractures) may require the surgical implantation of pins and plates, and other types of reinforcement with surgical hardware. Another common fracture occurs in the heads of the ulna, radio and humerus in the elbow. Although a rest here is not always a complete fracture, it can cause swelling and extreme pain.
