CommunityGetting PregnantPregnancyBabyToddlerChildHealthVideoBaby Products For YouNewborn no poopingcomments (17)Honestly, when this happened with my child I was not getting enough milk :( We had to supplement from day 8-14, when my milk FINALLY came well. She's 1 year old and still breastfeeding and hasn't had a formula for two weeks. That said, if you are breastfeeding exclusively, he is not poking, and he is not winning well, it is safe to say that you are not getting enough. :( Or your bearing is not good and is not transferring milk or you are having some problems. Something. I'd call an IBCLC in the morning... Besides, there's no need to use suppositories in exclusively breast-feeding babies. Do not constip unless there is an underlying medical problem. But given the lack of weight gain, I'm willing to bet you're not getting enough... My ODD pooped with every food, huge amounts of BF aqueous poop. YDD fucked once a week. Needless to say, with YDD I was totally paranoid that she wasn't getting enough. However, she had a lot of pine diapers. Some babies don't fall so often. About a year and a half, YDD shits once every two or three days. I have some links I'm gonna find. Here it is. It made me feel so much better. There is something important to point out in terms of the frequency of the sting in an exclusively breastfeeding baby. Many parents are worried when after the first few weeks they may have been seeing a small bowel movement in almost every diaper, they suddenly begin to see days pass without any kind. This is perfectly normal. There are a variety of intestinal movements with exclusively breast-feeding babies, ranging from a couple of times a day to several days. There are completely healthy nursing babies who have a bowel movement once a week, once every ten days, or even some who go a little more. If your baby is healthy, developing well, breastfeeding well and the consistency of the bowel movement when it makes your appearance smooth or loose, then don't worry. It's not constipation if it comes smoothly. The constipation would come in pellets and hard pieces. This is the reason I'd worry about. In the first 6 weeks or so, breast-feeding babies usually fall very often. After that, they can go for a week and as long as they're wet, okay, but in the NEWBORN phase, it's not typical. Now, if I were digging, I'd say don't worry. But because you have both... not shitting, which is unusual, and not winning, yes, I would check with IBCLC. A very young baby can quickly end up readmitted. How are wet diapers? You got 6-8 of those a day? This is from Jack Newman:2. Infant bowel movements. During the first days after delivery, the baby passes meconium, a dark green, almost black, substance. Meconium accumulates in the baby's intestine during pregnancy. Meconium passes during the first days, and for the 3rd day, the intestinal movements begin to be lighter, as more breast milk is taken. Usually, for the fifth day, intestinal movements have taken the appearance of normal breast milk stool. Normal breast milk stool is sticky to bitter, mustard, and usually has little odor. However, bowel movements can vary considerably from this description. They can be green or orange, they can contain curdos or snots, or they may look like shaving cream in consistency (of air bubbles). Color variation doesn't mean something's wrong. A baby who is breastfeeding only, and is starting to have bowel movements that are becoming lighter by day 3 of life, is doing well. Without getting obsessive about it, controlling the frequency and the amount of intestinal motions is one of the best ways to know if the baby is getting enough milk (but not as good as watching the break in the chin). After the first 3-4 days, the baby should have increased bowel movements so that at the end of the first week he must be going through at least 2-3 substantial yellow feces every day. In addition, many babies have a diaper stained with almost every feeding. A baby who is still having meconium on the fourth or fifth day of life, should be seen at the clinic the same day. A baby who's going through only the brown bowel movements is probably not getting enough, but this is not very reliable. Some breast-feeding babies, after the first 3-4 weeks of life, can suddenly change their many stool pattern every day, to one every 3 days or even less. Some babies have spent up to 15 days or more without an intestinal movement. As long as the baby is otherwise well, and the feces is the usual sticky or soft, yellow movement, this is not constipation and is not of any concern. No treatment is necessary or desirable, since no treatment is necessary or desirable for something that is normal. Any baby between 5 and 21 days of age who does not pass at least a substantial bowel movement within a 24 hour period should be seen at the breastfeeding clinic on the same day. Usually, small, rare bowel movements during this period of time mean insufficient intake. There are definitely some exceptions and everything can be fine, but it's better to check. Here's the whole bond with other things to look for. Hugs mama, the first few weeks are hard, but it's worth moving on... The baby's your career partner. About BABYCENTEROTHER SITES

Discussion on '' initiated by , . 2 by Sea 2 by Land My 9-day has TONS of wet diapers, but not dirty diapers. He's had a dirty diaper for almost 2 days. I read that it could be due to the lack of Hindumilk, but I keep it on every side until it's drained. I had a severe low milk supply with my first due to Insufficient Glandular Tissue (IGT), so I'm trying to keep an eye on this. Wet diapers are important, but in a mother who had / has a milk supply problem, dirty diapers are better indications.... obviously not dehydrated, but at this early age it is not normal to have 3-6 poopy diapers per day. Any ideas or advice? 5-year-old mom Can you check your baby's weight? Just to see if that is correct and within the parameters expected at this stage. If it is the other possibility is dairy intolerance, this can cause 'striking' in a newborn, my youngest had this problem between 7 and 11 days that did not fall at all, but I was recovering his weight at birth quickly and otherwise well. When we cut dairy completely at 2 weeks, the problem solved xx. 2 by Sea 2 by Land We've been monitoring your weight, given the issues I had with my DS1. Elliot's Stats: Birth: 7lb < 4oz Day 3: 6lb & 12oz Day 4: 6lb & 15oz Day 8: 7lb He's 9 days now. I'm not thinking about your dairy, but I guess there's always a chance. The only reason I don't think the case is bc that had loads of peanut diapers for the first 4 days... then after day 4 his really lowered hill to just a couple, and now he hasn't fucked in 2 days. But anyway, I always eat dairy, so I think it's strange that it didn't affect him, but there's always a chance, I'm sure. 5-year-old mom Weight loss seems not much and the gain looks great so it would consider the possibility that it is your dairy intake. Dairy intolerance rarely manifests itself immediately, is usually after a week or so at the absolute minimum, its most common one to manifest after 8-10 weeks. My son started from birth but that is very unusual, even so I still had the minimum number of caoey puppies during the first days and gradually decreased until he jumped those four days and again the next week when the same thing happened I cut all the dairy from my own diet, within hours he had 2 or 3 dirty puppies and the next day he was 4, the next day 6 and about 5 weeks was clearly not until 20 Well-Known Member I'm sorry to kidnap this post, but a lack of poop in a BF baby means dairy intolerance then? My LO doesn't shit every day, maybe once a day, but sometimes it can go 48 hours. I've been told that BF babies often don't go for a week and it's normal? Again, I'm sorry I kidnapped. 5-year-old mom In the first 4-6 weeks it can be due to dairy intolerance, but after that time it is normal for many breast-feeding babies to go for up to 3 weeks without pooing. Still, some BF experts and nursing consultants are starting to feel that after 6 weeks if a baby goes a long time without peeing and seems to be very uncomfortable, it can also be due to some xx intolerance 2 by Sea 2 by Land It can also be due to the lack of the baby taking hindmilk. 5-year-old mom But if the baby is gaining weight well and is having a lot of yellow poop when they poop, the lack of hindmilk is very unlikely. I looked at this matter extensively when my son had this problem. It is where the lack of caoey puppies are accompanied by rare green poo when they leave, other signs dehydration and/or bad weight gain that this is a concern, if the weight gain is well and so it is all else then it might well be due to intolerance if it occurs before 6 weeks or so. Actually it couldn't hurt to cut dairy for 2-3 days just to see if there's any xx improvement. Well-Known Member We also had this problem in the first few days. We saw a doctor and consulted a breastfeeding midwife and both said that he was healthy and that it was normal for some babies to be a few days without a poop as there are very few breast milk wastes and almost everything is absorbed. It wouldn't hurt him to be missed, but as SummerRain has said, if he's thriving, gaining weight and still has wet puppies, then it's probably nothing to worry about seriously. 2 by Sea 2 by Land I'll go without dairy for the next few days. I had milk, this is... how long will it take to get me out of the system? 2 by Sea 2 by Land ...and careless since he originally published that he capped 3x 5-year-old mom If your only (potentially) causing this particular problem you should see a great improvement of more regular slimming patterns within 2-3 days of cutting all dairy, if you do not help then I would not yet worry as it sounds like everything goes well this time of what you have mentioned. Some babies are just rare stools from outside and their just the way they are xx 2 by Sea 2 by Land Thanks, Hun... lamb question, but basically there's no milk, cheese, yogurt or butter... is there anything missing? Curiously, DS1 has an intolerance of cow milk and is in goat milk. 5-year-old mom Any of these more hidden dairy products is better avoided too, in kellymom there is a hidden dairy springboard. It may be better to avoid any animal milk product during the few days you are testing this as the proteins are very similar, my youngest would also react to buffalo sheep and xx goat milk Share this page
