TTT already lost, before they even run the race as a new logo leaves a disappointed country. Rebecca BrookerSep 1, 2018·6 min read By Rebecca Brooker 13 years ago, Trinidad and Tobago's beloved local television network signed the air at midnight, so it would be the last of TTT (Trinidad and Tobago Television) as we know it. With it, were some of our favorite childhood classics — 12 and Under, Mastana Bahar, Scouting For Talent, Panorama, Calabash Alley and several other locally produced television programs that expressed the true culture of our twin islands. For more than thirty years, TTT served as a pillar for cultural media, having been established just a week before Trinidad and Tobago gained independence in 1962. It is an iconic logo, three minuscule with the bars that overlap with each other, kept close and loved to the hearts of many citizens. In 2005, when TTT announced its television release, the country was destroyed. The loyalty of the TTT brand was among the highest brands in the area, this reputation that is earned both of attention to the diverse cultural programming and the fact that it was the only television station until 1991, which makes it widely available for all on the two islands on local channels 2 and 13. Let's go fast to 2018 for a minute, we'll go back to the history lesson later. The Honourable Prime Minister Keith Rowley announced that the government will mark the local CNMG network (Caribbean New Media Group) as TTT Ltd, in an effort to combat "false news" in the country, along with the fact that CNMG was no longer profitable. (Let's add that to the failed state business list, for example Caroni 1975, Clico, Petrotrina etc.) In the hope that the reputation of the TTT brand is still in touch a decade later, the government reveals the new and improved, Trinidad and Tobago Television with a new identity and a new vision for Trinidad and Tobago. In an effort to appeal to the younger generation of thousands, TTT executives that the network will now become a platform for young entrepreneurs and a home established for talented personalities. Elected citizens anticipated the relaunch of the brand, but were seriously disappointed at what was delivered. The new network logo left local designers and citizens equally in shock, wondering what really happened behind the concept, execution and approval of the final product. Three red Ts stacked uncomfortablely — which could be confused with 7's — sit at the top of a large fake metallic silver game button. With wide stems and narrow bars, strangely elongated to the left of the letters, the T lose their form and integrity, awkwardly supported on their sides as if they had stumbled by the Ariapita Avenue on the night of Independence after $5 Caribs all day. A matching silver metallic blow appears on the left side of the letters, fading in red to the right. An extremely large game button is behind the sloppy typography, gathering letters in uncomfortable angles and tension points. Colored in a metallic silver gradient of Adobe Illustrator default, it almost resembles the silver plate on which a payment check was delivered for this ****. And to overcome it, the government has great hope that the new TTT will retain its brand loyalty for years, with a logo that seems to be exhumed from Lapeyrouse Cemetery. To better understand why the original and iconic TTT logo meant so much to our nation, we must look at the history and time period within which TTT was born. The birth of TTT pointed to the end of an era of British colonization, as the Jack Union was lowered in Woodford Square, Port of Spain, and replaced by our beloved national flag. TTT served as a window to the new Republic of Trinidad and Tobago for thousands of citizens across the country. As the newly born nation of Trinidad and Tobago grew to be the woman she is today (I am not going to go into descriptions of what TYPE is a woman ...), TTT stood by our sides and took our hands, giving us a safe place to retire to local culture and talent. We feel connected to each other, in one way or another, through the love shared by our local network. On Saturday mornings were for cartoons and cereals, while other nights of the week were reserved exclusively to see Aunt Hazel the 12 and Under. The station broadcast live the first Independence Day Parade on August 31, 1962, the color television program was introduced in 1977, and TTT even launched a sister station in 1983. In addition, ask any Trinity and tell them that the most important moment in TTT's history was their role in the July 1990 coup attempt. When 72 members of Jamaat al Muslimeen broke into the network headquarters, they held the employees hostage and demanded to go live in the air to inform the nation that they were now in control. Citizens came to their televisions to get information from their trusted and unique news source, which had now been compromised by these bandits. Jamaat's leader, Yasin Abu Bakr appeared on every television screen in Trinidad and Tobago informing the nation that they had overthrown the government and to stay calm. So now you have a clearer picture of why there is a deep emotional attachment to the old TTT brand — a story that simply CANNO can be ignored or replaced. A story that must be honored and revived to achieve the goals of the current government to inculcate the citizen faith in the image of the country. It's sad to say they've already failed before they started. We, the citizens, have some questions about this: Who did this? Why? Were investigations conducted? How much did this project cost? How much of that budget was set to assess the equity of the old TTT brand? Was anyone consulted about this? Who approved the concept and signed the execution? Is there a brand book that supports this identity? Why don't we find the iconic logo again? Why don't we update and update the iconic logo? Why couldn't we unfortunately grow old 1962 TTT in 2018, instead of this explosion of the past? With one of the main goals of remarking is to attract young, vibrant and energetic talents to the network, who thought this could achieve it? Or someone simply emailed the file called "ttt-new-butold-finalFINAL.jpg" to Minister Maxie Cuffie and said "Yes bai, we're fine there." Listen, I know we can discuss a lot of things in our country these days and you'll say this is just another. But you're right, this is just another one that we'll let slip under the carpet. Someone. Paid, for this. And a lot of money, probably. As citizens, we have the duty and the responsibility to demand them (the agency) and our elected officials to be accountable to the highest standards than this. If there was a higher level of transparency and management around state companies, we would not find ourselves in this repetitive mess every 3-4 years. In 2018, is this the level of work we are satisfied with? This is really what taxpayers will look at and say: "Well, I see how my money was spent and I'm happy with that." This is unacceptable. And if you find it acceptable, then you're not paying enough attention to what's going on in our country and where your earned money goes. I'm calling the agency that produced the job to come showing proof of concept, research and exploration in the brand to provide context for how we're done here. Aunt Hazel would be rolling in her grave. Rebecca Brooker1 1 More from the Middle Get the Media App
